Relief Effort for Hurricanes Irma and Maria are Still Ongoing in the Caribbean

The Caribbean region was devastated by hurricanes Irma and Maria in August of 2018. Many island nations within the Caribbean were severely impacted by this severe disaster. People lost their lives and billions of dollars in damages were done. This storm originated in the Republic of Cabo Verde islands. This is a small island nation that lies off the coast of Western Africa near the countries of Senegal, Guinea-Bissau and Mauretania.

The storm originated in this part of the world before it started to travel across the Atlantic Ocean toward the Caribbean Island region. The storm began on August 30, 2017 and lasted all the way to September 16, 2017. It struck the Caribbean area sometime around September 5. When the storm arrived in the Caribbean area it struck with a powerful force. It was rated a category 5 storm.

The island nations of Puerto Rico and Antigua and Barbuda received significant damage. Infrastructure was destroyed, thousands lost their homes and thousands were displaced. As of February 14, this U.S. territory is still without 20% of its power. Puerto Ricans were given billions in aid, but the money is not enough to get the country back on track.

People from all over the United States and in other parts of the world, continue to give aid to the territory. Keep in mind that Puerto Rico wasn’t the only island to be impacted by the storm. The small island nations within the Caribbean suffered as well. The nation suffered damage as well.

Much of the money that has been pouring in to these nations have been put to good use with helping the population to recover. Organizations like IGY Marinas under the leadership of Andrew Farkas have made efforts to help. Efforts are still being made by everyone around the world. The devastation to the nation of Puerto Rico was so strong that the recovery effort is expected to last for many years.

Grand Cayman: Home to the Caribbean’s Best Restaurants

As a well-established tourist destination and home to a population of more than 100 different ethnicities, Grand Cayman has a flourishing and diverse restaurant scene. Here are some of the best Grand Cayman restaurants (https://camanabay.com/grand-cayman-restaurants/).

Highly recommended by Fodor’s travel guide, Mizu is located in the town center of Camana Bay. It features an extensive menu with specialties from every corner of Asia, and highlights include the duck, Singapore fried noodles, and Okinawan-style pork belly. Mizu also offers a large selection of sushi, as well as a sake and wine list.

Kaibo has been Grand Cayman’s #1 ranked restaurant on Trip Advisor for the last six years and counting and it’s easy to see why. Offering a six-course tasting menu for only $70, Kaibo showcases the best seafood Grand Cayman has to offer at a reasonable price. With an interesting collection of rare rums and a location away from Seven Mile, Kaibo is the perfect place to enjoy a special evening.

If traditional Cayman dishes (http://beachboxtv.com/grand-cayman/2015/7/2/10-caymanian-dishes-you-need-to-know-about) are what you seek, look no further than Amelia’s Kitchen. The menu changes slightly every day, but recommended plates include conch soup and Cayman-style beef, where shredded beef is marinated in a variety of spices before cooking low and slow for hours. Be sure to go early, however, because delicious food and cheap prices mean things sell out quickly!

Featuring seafood and a plethora of vegan options, Vivo takes pride in serving up healthy, sustainable fare. Lionfish are an invasive species that threaten the local reef, so to help mitigate this, Vivo serves it in a myriad of ways including lionfish cakes, Asian-style lionfish, and even lionfish curry. With a buttery, flaky texture, many compare the flavor of the fish to that of lobster.

With posh, contemporary design and set right on Seven Mile Beach, Luca offers delicious Italian and Mediterranean fare for those who need a break from seafood. Menu highlights include a selection of cold antipasti, gnocchi with cream sauce, and herb-marinated rack of lamb. Wine lovers rejoice because Luca offers an impressive collection of over 3,000 wine bottles sourced from all over the globe.

Marina Embraces Technology with New Boating App

Boaters that call any IGY Marina their home can now rejoice (and relax!) thanks to a new mobile app called Boatyard. This new partnership with Boatyard will certainly make life easier for the avid boater whether they are boating for pleasure or business.

Have Cellphone will Travel
Because our cell phones are already such an intrinsic part of our everyday lives, providing an app that helps boaters organize, save time and feel reassured while they are out on the water is ideal. We are already familiar with apps such as getting the weather, driving directions, tuning the guitar, playing games, so this app by Boatyard just makes sense.
No longer will a boater need to worry about how long he needs to idol or circle around until he can safely pull into a gas dock or a pump out. Scheduling these weekly or monthly duties will now be a simple task rather than a worrisome chore for some.
Granted, if you are an amateur boater, not skilled in docking as well as some, then this app is ideal. You can schedule your visit to the gas dock for early morning to avoid crowds or later in the day if you need to round up a few friends to help. It’s that simple.
For the Captain who needs his prop readjusted, wants the bottom of his boat painted or any other maintenance done by the IGY Marina, he can simply schedule it on the app.
The beauty of never having to leave the boat to accomplish his “to do” list is a real plus.

IGY Sets a Trend
IGY Marinas was founded by Andrew Farkas, who also serves as Chairman. While partnering with BoatYard is primarily helpful for the boater, it is also a realistic, beneficial and trend setting move for the marina as well. No more trying to pencil in a client, no more worries if an appointment wasn’t jotted down. It’s on the app. With technology constantly advancing forward, the Boatyard app is the way to go. Boats designed today are designed with advanced tech options, streamlined interiors and sexy cockpit seating with barbeque grills built right in. Boatyard has finally caught on and IGY is about to lead the way with the technology all boaters deserve and need for a practical, safe and fun boating experience for their clients. Bravo to IGY Marinas for setting the standard once again.

What is even more magnificent about Grand Cayman shopping is that Americans can take home high-end products duty free (https://camanabay.com/grand-cayman-shopping/). Each person in a family is allowed up to $800 worth of duty free items when they leave the country, and this includes minors. That means a family of 5 could take home $4,000 worth of merchandise without being taxed for their purchases.

In addition to the duty free status of high-end merchandise and alcohol products, Grand Cayman does not charge any duty taxes on handcrafted items made on the island itself. You can buy endless amounts of crafts, handiwork, and artwork without the fear of taxation.

Where to Shop in Grand Cayman

There are several shopping areas in Grand Cayman that allow you to indulge in serious retail therapy. However, each of these districts has something different to offer. If you are looking for high-end and designer merchandise, your best choice would be to shop in Camana Bay. Camana Bay is the prime shopping district for these types of items.

If you are searching for handmade goods, foods, and rum, look at the outdoor markets found around many of the cruise terminals. Here you will find a large selection of handmade items, delectable foods, and prime rum.

If you are searching for jewelry, gemstones, precious stones or metals, you will find different stores located throughout the entire island offering these goods. However, it is always in your best interest to stick with well-known jewelers when making these purchases.

Overall, you will find that the shopping experience in Grand Cayman is just as wonderful as the weather, the beaches, and the scenery. With low pricing and large duty-free limits, everyone can bring something home.

Priyanka Chopra’s Epic Met Gala Entrance

“I will probably faint, but it’s so cool,” said first-time Met Gala attendee Priyanka Chopra of the custom Ralph Lauren look she wore to the event on Monday. The Indian actress was a newbie at Golden Globes this year too, where she donned a head-turning custom piece by the American brand—a glittering gold dress with a plunging neckline that recalled a Studio 54 kind of glamour.

Chopra and Lauren had more classic reference points in mind for the Museum’s annual ball this past Monday and used the classic elegance of Katharine Hepburn as a jumping-off point. The resulting trench coat was given an avant-garde twist thanks to a dramatic train which required four hands to get out of the lobby of her hotel. But Chopra didn’t let her train stop her from dancing the night away. The floor-sweeping trench cleverly converted into a minidress for Katy Perry’s Boom Boom Bash and Rihanna’s epic late-night party. Here, Chopra gives a behind-the-scenes peek inside her big red carpet moment.

Maintain your New Year’s Resolution All Year Round

It’s a New Year and a new you, right? That’s what so many of us think when the clock strikes midnight on December 31st. Ushering in a new year is a chance for a change and a promise for a healthier trip around the sun.

So then why do so many of us fall short on keeping our resolutions?
It seems that no matter how hard you try you just can’t maintain the same enthusiasm as the weeks progress.

Here are just a few tips from global health company, Mannatech (http://allaboutmannatech.com/), to use when trying to stick to your goal.

1.) Pick a word, just one word that embodies your goal.
If the list of goals you have set out is too long the task can seem overwhelming. You will quickly forget all of the things you set out to do- but it’s much harder to forget one word. Write that word down somewhere that you look everyday, make it so it’s always on your mind and live by that word.

2.) Find a buddy to help you
It’s lonely and boring to go on a journey by yourself. Find a friend, a coworker, a spouse, even a support group to join you on your path. With social media this makes it especially easy. Join an exercise or health group that posts tips and suggestions on how to achieve your goals. Be sure to find support that will truly inspire you and motivate you.

3.) Prepare to fall
We all have a tendency to fall off the path that we are on, but the difference is what you do after you fall. You are allowed to have cheat days and not follow your diet. You are allowed to skip the gym that day and go to Happy Hour instead. People who are successful at maintaining their resolutions always get back on track. Allowing yourself to have those moments of weakness will allow you to enjoy the journey more instead of despising it.

4.) Set small goals
Nothing is more overwhelming then a huge mountain in front of you. Instead set small achievable hills to cross. Don’t promise to work out 7 days a week, but set out for 2 days and work your way up. Not meeting your goals is the number one reason for people to become frustrated and give up. By setting achievable goals then you are setting yourself up for success.

Always remember that it’s a personal journey so make it your own.
